Welcome to TWIGS Community Gardens

The beautiful gardens at TWIGS are green sanctuaries in the middle of Swindon, where each distinctive space can be explored and visitors can connect with nature and each other.

Our gardens are places of healing. Engaging with nature through horticultural therapy is a powerful way of reducing stress and finding a sense of purpose.

The gardens are also a resource to give people who experience mental health problems the chance to regain confidence, self-esteem and to learn new skills. If you feel that participating in the therapeutic activities at TWIGS could be beneficial for your mental health, then please look at the information on our referral page.

About TWIGS

Opened over 25 years ago, TWIGS offers support to people experiencing mental health difficulties, many of whom are referred to us by other organisations.  Through a range of horticultural, craft and art activities, we enable our service users to develop and learn new skills, grow in confidence and make connections with others.

The gardens have evolved over many years, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our band of staff and volunteers, and through this collective effort we have managed to nurture an oasis of calm and beauty in the middle of a bustling town.

Throughout the year, our gardens transform, offering a changing canvas of colours and textures. From the vibrant blossoms of spring to the cosy warmth of autumn, each season is unique.

The difference we're making

TWIGS is a community garden where people can regain confidence and feel better about themselves by participating in seasonal activities and learning new skills in a natural environment.

They can then take steps (however large or small) to improve their overall well-being and grow again. Most say they can function more independently and many move on to work, education or further volunteering, which they say they would have struggled with before they came to us.

“I’ve started to gain confidence and feel better. Attending TWIGS has been a major part of this, to the point that I felt ready to start a small part-time job, and to my astonishmentI got the job on my first try! I dearly love coming to TWIGS and it has been such a wonderful help to me.”
